Optical Wireless Manufacturer Teams with World Leader In Network Design, Installation, Maintenance

RICHMOND, Canada. - Apr. 5, 2001 - fSONA Communications Corp., a manufacturer of optical wireless systems, has signed a long-term agreement with General Dynamics Worldwide Telecommunications Systems (NYSE: GD) for global installation and technical support services.

Under the agreement, General Dynamics' telecom engineers and technicians will assist fSONA customers in the installation, technical support and maintenance of the company's optical wireless systems.

"With its worldwide deployment capabilities and exceptional technical resources, General Dynamics is a perfect fit for us," Theresa Carbonneau, chief executive officer, fSONA, said. "We have already been working together on a number of beta site installations, and the relationship has proven highly effective for our customers."

Last month, fSONA announced commercial availability of its first optical wireless system, the SONAbeam™ 155-2, and demonstrated its capabilities at the Broadband Wireless Internet Forum in San Francisco. fSONA's systems provide broadband Internet access, high-speed inter-LAN connectivity, fiber-like extensions to SONET/SDH ring services, PCS backhaul and short-haul campus links for service providers and enterprises worldwide.

The company's SONAbeam 155-2 provides an optical wireless link capable of carrying customer information over distances of up to two kilometers (1.25 miles) at speeds up to 155 Mbps. The system is available for order now and is expected to ship in May. The retail price for the SONAbeam 155-2 system is $30,000, including both ends needed for a full optical wireless link.

fSONA will offer three optical wireless transceiver models this year, including the SONAbeam 155-SH (short-haul) system for distances up to 500 meters, and the SONAbeam 622-2 system that transmits 622 megabits per second over two kilometers.
