SONAbeam™ from fSONA Systems Establishes High Degree of Free Space Optical (FSO) Satisfaction with IEEE 802 Plenary Session.

McLean, VA - DECEMBER 20, 2005 - fSONA Systems, a major provider of secure optical wireless systems, today announced deployment of fSONA's Fast Ethernet SONAbeam™ system to bridge between the high-speed networks of two conference hotels in support of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802® LAN/MAN Standards Committee (LMSC) Plenary Session held in Vancouver, B.C. The IEEE 802 LMSC develops and publishes International Standards for Local Area Networks and Metropolitan Area Networks including 802.3 (Ethernet LANs), 802.11 (Wireless LANs), and 802.16 (Broadband Wireless MANs).

“The SONAbeam™ technology was an excellent choice for our application — it was fast, secure, and eliminated our RF interference concerns, ” said Dr. Everett Rigsbee, Executive Secretary, IEEE 802. “It will be a very valuable tool for use at future IEEE 802 sessions that require a wireless bridging device.”

For VeriLAN, Inc., a provider of wireless conferencing solutions, fSONA's optical wireless link proved a valuable tool for providing the 100 Mbps connection required to support the 1500 engineers attending the IEEE 802 LMSC Session. Rapidly and easily deployed, the SONAbeam™ 155-E system established the full duplex Fast Ethernet connection, through hotel windows, in less than one hour. The link was used to transport data and internet connections between the two conference venues ensuring the ability to provide consistent high capacity service levels to all participants.

In acknowledging that the SONAbeam™ well exceeded their expectations, Steven Schroedl, CTO for VeriLAN, also remarked, “We are impressed with the SONAbeam™'s performance and ease of set-up, as well as fSONA's quick response to our urgent need.”

A line of sight technology that uses beams of light, fSONA's SONAbeam™ delivers Gigabit Ethernet speeds up to 2.5 Gbps - without the lengthy timetables, costly licensing & installer fees, or the potential interference issues of other high-speed connectivity solutions.

“Rapid deployment and high-speed connectivity are key features of fSONA’s free space optic links,” said Sunny Taylor, CEO for fSONA. “Optical wireless solutions combine the speed of fiber with the flexibility of wireless to provide reliable, high-speed connections that are easily deployed and redeployed as applications dictate. It was especially significant that a real world application of the SONAbeam™ solution was demonstrated at this conference given the technical scope of the audience.”
