Free space optical solutions help to support existing infrastructure and provide high speed connections for one of country's largest mobile operators
Vancouver, Canada - February 9, 2011 - fSONA Networks Corp, a leading provider of next generation free space optical wireless solutions, and IT&C solutions supplier Radcom, today announced a frame agreement with one of Romania's largest GSM network operators to deliver free space optical solutions to support the existing fibre infrastructure and to help create new high speed connections.
fSONA’s free space optic solutions provide operators with a wireless backhaul alternative that can be deployed quickly, easily and cost-effectively to relieve data capacity issues and offer subscribers an improved service. Because FSO technology is based on point to point laser transmission, there are no spectrum licensing requirements or any costly and time consuming infrastructure installation requirements. The solution is safe, secure, offers fibre-like bit rates of up to 2.5Gbps, is compatible with next generation networks, and unaffected by adverse weather conditions such as rain or fog.
The agreement will see fSONA supplying a range of products in their SONAbeam M and E Series to bridge the bandwidth gap. Offering up to 50 times the power of competing products, the SONAbeam M Series has quadruple-redundant transmitters and the largest receiver in the industry to ensure transmission integrity, making it ideal for medium range, high-availability links. The SONAbeam E series provides cost-effective links for short-distance applications. It is very versatile, offering support for a number of different network protocols which makes ramping bandwidth or switching protocols quick and inexpensive.
"The ability to quickly deploy fSONA's solutions to support existing fibre infrastructure and enable more high-speed services is a key benefit for Romanian operators as the market experiences rapid growth," said Adrian Sandu at Radcom.
"We are delighted to add Romania to our geographical spread of operator relationships, offering a flexible networking solution that delivers on the promise of mobile broadband," said Andrew Grieve, President and CEO of fSONA. "It is exciting to see fSONA's technology helping to provide valuable communications services and overcome the network capacity problems that are plaguing operators worldwide."
