Optical Networking Veteran to Direct Engineering & Manufacturing Operations

RICHMOND, Canada - Jan. 29, 2001 - fSONA Communications Corp. has hired optical networking veteran Robert Kehr as director of operations. In this newly created position, Kehr will be responsible for overseeing the company's , product engineering and product commercialization activities. He will also oversee the manufacturing of fSONA's carrier-class broadband optical wireless systems.

"Robert has always been on the cutting edge of optical networking," said Theresa Carbonneau, president and chief executive officer of fSONA. "Now his leadership and expertise will resonate across our product development, engineering and manufacturing teams. He joins our company at a particularly exciting time, as we gear up for the introduction of our SONAbeam™ product line to the market."

Prior to joining fSONA, Kehr was director of technology development of TeraBeam, a Seattle, Wash.-based Internet Service Provider, where he managed product development for high-bandwidth optical wireless systems.

Before joining TeraBeam, Kehr was a program manager at TRW, where he was responsible for the development and deployment of a global broadband data collection, processing and distribution network to support U.S. government operations. He also co-founded Laser Communications International where he was responsible for the development and manufacture of high-performance hardware for free space optical communications.

During service in the U.S. Air Force, Kehr managed the construction of the nation's Advanced Electro-optical System, led the development of high energy laser weapons, and directed the deployment of ground operations to support global surveillance and communications systems.

Kehr received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and two advanced degrees. His master's degrees are in electrical engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology and in mechanical engineering from the California State Polytechnic Institute.
