General Dynamics to provide Secure Wireless Network with Support from fSONA optical wireless

McLean, VA - June 19, 2006 - fSONA Systems, a leader in optical wireless technology, has announced receipt of its first order as part of the contract awarded to General Dynamics Network Systems to provide a secure voice and data wireless network for the U.S. Army at the Pohakuloa Training Area (PTA) in Hawaii.

fSONA participated in multiple demonstrations during the Pohakuloa pilot, a two month period in which multiple wireless technologies were tested and evaluated, and consistently received high marks for its ability to provide reliable gigabit speed connectivity. The fact that Pohakuloa is built on a huge volcano bed posed no problem to fSONA's SONAabeam™ free space optic (FSO) technology because it transmits invisible light beams through the atmosphere to provide broadband communications.

Providing all the inherent advantages of optical fiber connectivity, while leveraging the flexibility of a wireless connection, SONAbeam provides the ability to deploy broadband solutions, on a global basis, without any frequency licensing issues, RF congestion or latency issues that may limit the addressable applications.

The General Dynamics solution at Pohakuloa will be the first campus-wide wireless networks installed for the Army.

“Pohakuloa joins a growing list of SONAbeam military deployments”, said Sunny Taylor, President and Chief Executive Officer for fSONA. “It is, however, an especially significant achievement to be part of this technology application as it can be applied elsewhere within the Army's network infrastructure known as LandWarNet.”

The contract was competitively awarded under the Army's Installation Information Infrastructure Program (I3MP), the Army's multi-year initiative to upgrade all of its installations worldwide, providing greater bandwidth to address increasing demands for voice, video and data services.
