McLean, VA - November 1, 2006 - fSONA Systems, a leader in optical wireless technology, announced today that it will be exhibiting in General Dynamics booth #207 at the AFCEA TechNet Asia Pacific Conference, in Honolulu, Hawaii. fSONA’s SONAbeam systems are being used by General Dynamics to provide a secure voice and data wireless network for the U.S. Army at the Pohakuloa Training Area (PTA) in Hawaii.
When: November 7-9, 2006
Where: Sheraton Waikiki Hotel, Honolulu, HI
Website: http://www.afcea.org/events/asiapacific/06/
fSONA participated in multiple demonstrations during the Pohakuloa pilot, a two month period in which multiple wireless technologies were tested and evaluated, and consistently received high marks for its ability to provide reliable gigabit speed connectivity. The fact that Pohakuloa is built on a huge volcano bed posed no problem to fSONA’s SONAbeam™ free space optic (FSO) technology because it transmits invisible light beams through the atmosphere to provide broadband communications.
Providing all the inherent advantages of optical fiber connectivity, while leveraging the flexibility of a wireless connection, SONAbeam provides the ability to deploy broadband solutions, on a global basis, without any frequency licensing issues, RF congestion or latency issues that may limit the addressable applications.
The General Dynamics solution at Pohakuloa will be the first campus-wide wireless network installed for the Army.
