Gearing Up Production, Fsona Communications
Names New Human Resources Director
Richmond, Canada (November 6, 2000) - Anticipating rapid
growth as it approaches full commercial production, fSONA
Communications Corporation - a manufacturer of broadband
optical wireless systems for high-speed communications - has
named Suzanne Boisvert director of human resources.
"In today's environment, ensuring the right people are
in place at the right time is crucial to success," said
Theresa Carbonneau, president and chief executive officer of
fSONA. "We're confident Suzanne will make a big
difference in recruitment for fSONA."
Boisvert brings to the company extensive experience in
staffing start-up enterprises. In a previous position,
Boisvert was director of human resources for YVRAS Vancouver
Airport Services, a subsidiary of the Vancouver Airport
Authority in Vancouver, Canada.
Prior to joining YVRAS Vancouver Airport Services, she was
responsible for staffing all positions related to the
creation and operation of the Hong Kong International
Airport, which opened two years ago. Earlier, Boisvert was a
senior consultant for the accounting firm of Deloitte Touche
Tohmatsu, the Hong Kong accounting and consulting arm of
Deloitte Touche and Ross, where she assisted in executive
recruitment for clients.
Boisvert holds a bachelor of arts degree from the University
of Ottawa in Ottawa, Canada.
In her new position, Boisvert is responsible for manpower
planning, staffing and related matters. Her selection is the
second recent announcement by fSONA connected to its rapidly
expanding production capacity. Last month, the company named
Derek Montgomery to direct Canadian manufacturing
operations. In addition, fSONA has nearly doubled its
headquarters space here. At the same time, the company is
expanding its research and development facilities in Los
Angeles, Calif.
In that R&D center, fSONA has developed a family of
optical wireless products to meet the rising global demand
for inexpensive computer-to-computer and Internet
connections in metropolitan areas where wired technology is
either unavailable or too costly to install.
The company was founded in 1997 with an exclusive license
from British Telecom to develop optical laser-based systems
that provide wireless communications for broadband services
at gigabit speeds. The SONAbeam product line carries
high volumes of digital information - voice, data and video
- at up to 1.25 gigabits per second between transceiver
terminals as far apart as four kilometers, delivering
broadband communications at a fraction of the cost of wired
technologies.
About fSONA fSONA Systems is recognized as the preferred provider of optical wireless solutions for government, enterprise and service provider markets around the globe. Leveraging leading edge advancements in 1550nm optical transmission, the SONAbeam family of systems, based on free-space-optics (FSO), use a globally unlicensed, wireless technology to provide speeds up to 2.5 Gbps over distances up to 7km.
